Mirror Phase

Projected in the vaulted basement of the Kunstverein is Carola Klein’s 1978 film, Mirror Phase, in which Greenham appears as a voice and is credited as recording assistant to composer Michael Parsons for the sound. The film was produced by the British Film Institute (BFI) in London, and was initially filmed on 8mm before being refilmed onto 16mm at the London Film-makers Co-op. It traces the development of film-maker Carola Klein’s own daughter, Leonie, between the ages of seven months and two years, reflecting on her relationship to images of herself and on Klein’s active role as both mother and film-maker in front and behind the camera. Greenham can be heard amongst a polyphony of voices — together with Irene Mooy, Gill Pinkerton, and Relinde Uttien — asking prosaic questions of Leonie at various points throughout the film.
